The cash-strapped Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Wednesday netted Rs. 16 crore on the first day of a property tax collection drive.
BBMP Administrator T.M. Vijay Bhaskar and Commissioner G. Kumar Naik had instructed zonal revenue officials to form teams that will verify declarations by multi-storey properties. On Wednesday, Mahadevapura zone topped the list with over Rs. 7.7 crore, including Rs. 3.78 crore from Vydehi Hospital. Over the next month, BBMP hopes to net at least Rs. 1,000 crore in property tax.
