A 25-year old youth, who played cricket not only for Karnataka’s Under-22 team, but also represented India in its Under-17 team, was killed on the spot when the motorcycle he was riding along with a friend rammed a roadside tree on West of Chord Road in the early hours of Sunday.
His friend, who was riding pillion, was severely injured in the accident and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
The deceased identified as, Umesh Karvi a resident of Maruthi Nagar and native of Kundapura, was riding his motorcycle along with his friend, Mithun Kumar at around 12.45 a.m. According to the police, Umesh was riding without a helmet. “Umesh was reportedly under the influence of alcohol. He lost control of the vehicle and rammed a tree,” a police official said. He sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot. Passers-by rushed both of them to a hospital where doctors declared Umesh brought dead.
“Umesh could have been alive had he wore a helmet,” an official of Rajaji Nagar police station said.Umesh was the only son among the four children of Kugga Karvi and Yashodha Karvi couple, who are staying in their native Muddugudde, Kundapur. He was working as a data entry operator in a software company in Mahadevpura industrial area in Bangalore.
The body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem. A case has been registered.
