On Monday, some students faced anxious moments on being unable to download the admission ticket for the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) exam.

On Wednesday, a few found that the examination centres had been swapped. An engineering seat aspirant, who printed the hall ticket on Monday, was allotted a centre on Old Madras Road.

“On Tuesday, I got a message from a friend who said that some centres had been changed. I was taken aback to find out that mine was changed to K.R. Puram,” he said.

Manoj M. Bhat, an engineering seat aspirant who downloaded his hall ticket last week, was shocked to find that his centre was changed from RNS Institute of Technology at Channasandra to PNS Institute of Technology at Nelamangala. “What if I had not re-checked the hall ticket on Tuesday?” he said.

Many students complained of being allotted centres far away from their homes.

On Wednesday, some students received an email from ERA Foundation, which is vested with the responsibility of conducting the online exam for COMEDK, saying the exam centres had been changed.

“In order to ensure that the candidates from PCM, PCB and PCMB are allocated the appropriate centres, we have revised your exam centre. Please download your revised TAT NOW. Regret the inconvenience caused due to the delay in providing this TAT,” the email stated.

A.S. Srikanth, Chief Executive, COMEDK, said that the change had been made due to logistical and technical reasons as the UGET exam will go online for the first time this year.

The COMEDK exam

It is the gateway to private professional colleges and is scheduled for this Sunday. Over 1.79 lakh candidates will appear for the exam in 729 centres in 156 cities across the country. Out of these, 30,550 candidates are from Karnataka. Nearly 1.01 lakh candidates aspire for a medical seat.

They will be appearing for the exam with uncertainty as the apex court is yet to determine its validity in the backdrop of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
