Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara, who is also Bengaluru City Development Minister, on Sunday met with Kavitha, the wife of S. Subramani, a pourakarmika with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike who allegedly committed suicide over non- payment of salary for six months.

The Minister was accompanied by Mayor R. Sampath Raj, BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad, Ruling Party Leader M. Shivaraju, and Dattatreya Temple ward councillor R.S. Sathyanarayana. Dr. Parameshwara handed over a cheque for ₹5 lakh to Ms. Kavitha.

The BBMP had assured the bereaved family of a compensation of ₹10 lakh. Mr. Sampath Raj had handed over a cheque for ₹5 lakh the day after Subramani died.

Mr. Sampath Raj said the BBMP has offered to give her a job as a pourakarmika on compassionate grounds. “We have urged the Minister to get the Karnataka Slum Development Board to allot a house for the family,” said the Mayor, and added that the BBMP would also provide the bereaved family Subramani’s salary for six months.
