A BMTC bus collided with a car and rammed into a tree near Hurali Chikkanahalli on Saturday.

The car driver, Jagadish, 36, died on the spot, while 14 bus passengers sustained minor injuries. The bus driver, Nagesh, 45, a resident of Hessarghatta who was also injured, is being treated in a private hospital. The injured passengers were taken to a hospital in the area where they were treated for minor injuries and discharged.

According to the police, the incident took place around 11.30 a.m. when the bus was heading towards Hessarghatta from Majestic. Jagadish was driving in the opposite direction, towards Yeshwantpur.

After the collision, Nagesh, in order to control the speed of the bus, drove straight into a tree. There were 25 passengers aboard the bus when the accident took place. “It was fortunate that the bus rammed into the tree as there was an eatery on the road serving around 20 customers. If the bus had not stopped after hitting the tree, there could have been more casualties,” said an officer.

In another incident, a biker was killed on spot after he was knocked down by a vehicle at HSR Layout on Friday evening. The deceased, K. Manjunath, 30, a resident of Ramagondanahalli, sustained severe head injuries and died on the way to hospital. The HSR Layout traffic police arrested the driver, Vijaya Kumar, a private company employee.
