The elections to seats in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will be held on August 22, announced the State Election Commission (SEC) here on Thursday.

While the polls were originally announced by the SEC to be held on July 28, the Supreme Court – which was hearing a plea from the state government to seeking time to delimit municipal wards – had ordered on July 4 that the polls must be held within eight weeks.

The Karnataka High Court had set a deadline for the announcement of polls by Friday.

With the announcement of the calendar of events on Thursday, the model code of conduct for political parties and candidates will be in effect from Friday, said a release from SEC.
