The Anglo-Indian Guild hosted a reception for Charles Dias, who has been recently nominated Anglo-Indian Member of Parliament, at St. Mary's Orphanage here on Sunday.
The celebration in honour of Mr. Dias was seen also as an opportunity to bring to light some of the pressing problems being faced by the community in Bangalore.
Marlene Jahn, general secretary of the guild, emphasised the need for better education, a community centre, and additional reservations in medicine and engineering courses for Anglo-Indian. She voiced the hope that as their representative, Mr. Dias might be able to facilitate these changes.
MLA Derek Fullinfaw said that he would strive for more number of reserved seats in nursing from one to five, while emphasising the need for a community centre.
