Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president R.V. Deshpande on Sunday demanded that the State Government serve non-bailable warrant (NBW) on Infrastructure and Tourism Minister G. Janardhan Reddy ordered by Sandur Judicial Magistrate Court in Tumti Mines case.

Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Deshpande recalled that the Sandur police had filed a First Information Report on the basis of a complaint by Narayana Reddy of Tumti Mines against the Minister and Andhra Pradesh MLA Ramachandra Reddy in connection with “illegal mining” on the Karnataka-Andhra Pradesh border.

While Mr. Ramachandra Reddy appeared before court, it issued an NBW against the Minister for his failure to appear. He appealed before the Dharwad Bench of the Karnataka High Court, but it rejected his plea. The Minister approached the Kudligi court, which, while rejecting his application, ordered that the case should be settled at the Sandur court.

The Congress leader alleged that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had failed to initiate action against the Minister and was trying to shield him.

He condemned the appointment of administrators for village panchayats whose term had come to an end. He alleged that the Government could misuse Rs. 2,400 crore released by the Union Government for the village panchayats under the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
