Dacoits arrested after encounter

Four members of a dacoity gang were arrested after an encounter in which police opened fire injuring two here on Monday, police said.

Three police personnel including an Inspector were injured after the gang allegedly attacked them with lethal weapons when a team of police raided their hideout. The dacoits accosted a couple in the city locality last night and relieved the housewife of her mangalsutra , credit card and Rs. 500.

On a tip off, a beat constable alerted the control room and police station. When the police raided the gang’s hideout, its members attacked them with weapons, following which the police opened fire at the gang.

While two of the gangsters were injured in the firing, two others were overpowered, police said. A fifth person managed to escape the scene before the police could catch him.
