A woman and her mother were on Thursday arrested on charge of killing husband of the former.

According to Fourth Town Inspector B. Tirumala Rao, deceased S. Appalaraju, welder by profession, used to harass his wife Sridevi (19) and his mother-in-law Ramulamma (40), without giving adequate money for household maintenance.

Appalaraju also used to torture his wife suspecting her fidelity. On June 2, in the wee hours, after a quarrel with his wife, Appalaraju went to his bedroom, locked his door and attempted suicide by trying to hang himself from the ceiling fan using a saree. Noticing Appalaraju struggle for breath the duo pulled him down while he was still breathing.

However, the duo allegedly strangulated him to death using the saree.

During interrogation, the two confessed to the crime, the Inspector said.
