Vizag Bar Association elections

Elections for the Visakhapatnam Bar Association, the largest professional body for lawyers in the State, will be held on Wednesday.

Hectic campaign was witnessed with the use of social media for the past few days. The candidates used Facebook and WhatsApp to reach the voters besides door-to-door campaign. The introduction of proper vehicle parking, canteen, rest room and professional activities were some of the promises made by the contestants.

The counting will be taken up after voting and the results are expected by late evening. An estimated 2,850 eligible voters are expected to exercise their franchise. There were four candidates each for president and secretary and five for vice-president. The lone women’s representative Radharani was elected unopposed.

Among the candidates who took active part in canvassing include B. Ramakrishna and G. Maheswara Reddy for president, P. Anuradha, Pratap and Y. Venugopal for secretary and Kuppili Muralidhar, J.V.R. Raghavendra Rao, Umarani and John Mohan for vice-president.
