Students of AP Tribal Welfare Department’s Gurukula hostel (residential institution) at Pedabayalu in Visakha Agency expressed their protest against the functioning of their Principal by leaving the hostel.
Most of the students left the hostel during the last one week to 10 days in spite of the half-yearly examinations. Differences between one group of teachers and the Principal have reportedly prompted the students to resort to the protest.
Officials got into the action and the students were persuaded to come back to the school. Deputy Director of Tribal Welfare Kamala told The Hindu that she assured the students that the Principal would be changed after Dasara vacation and wanted them to come back to the school so that they do not miss the half-yearly examinations. Almost all students have returned and the remaining 50 to 60 would be back in in a day or two, the official said.
