Superintendent of Police Vikram Jeet Duggal inaugurated the Visakhapatnam District Police Sports and Games 2013 duty meet at the Kailasagiri Police Grounds here on Saturday.
A total of 150 police personnel (sports persons) from the four sub divisions of Anakapalle, Narsipatnam, Paderu and Chintapalli in the district, District Armed Reserve and ministerial staff are participating in the meet. Track suits were distributed to the participants.
Those who excel in this meet would be selected for the State-level Police Duty Meet. The participants would compete in events like javelin throw, discus throw, high jump, long jump and volley ball.
Mr. Duggal said that the sports meet would provide relief to the policemen from the daily grind. Additional SP D.N. Kishore, Narsipatnam OSD A.R. Damodar, Paderu ASP K. Fakirappa, IPS trainee Kamlesh Kumar and DSP SVD Prasad were among those who were present.
DRF trainingA total of 27 police personnel from the district underwent training in skilled and trained force as part of the District Disaster Response Force (DRF) formed in the district. These policemen underwent tough training to effectively deal with rescue operations in times of natural calamities and man-made disasters.
The Superintendent of Police said the team members were trained by experts drawn from Rashtriya Life Saving Society, Indian Navy, Fisheries Department, Fire Services and the National Cadet Corps (NCC). He commended the trainees at a programme organised at the Kailasagiri Police Grounds on Saturday.
The SP and other officials went up to some nautical miles into the Bay of Bengal and watched the demonstrations being performed by the trainees.
