A major issue that has cropped up during the interaction of Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana with members of slum-level federations on construction of individual toilets is lack of space for building of septic tank.

City federation president Anuradha and Bhavani from Vizianagaram expressed concern over non-availability of space in houses with five to six small portions for a septic tank.

They said that provision should be made for a common tank.

CEO of SERP and Mission Director of MEPMA S. Solomon Arokia Raj told them that the possibility would be examined.

Answering their doubts at the programme on Wednesday, Mr. Narayana said wherever space was a constraint, community toilets would be constructed.

Comes late

Though the ‘face-to-face’ was supposed to commence at 10 a.m., the Minister came two hours behind schedule.

The media invitation also put the time as 10 a.m. But, at that time, only a few women representatives turned up and GVMC officials were seen making calls to others to hurry up and reach the venue at the earliest.

An official said the time given to them for the meeting was 11.30 a.m.
