Roller-skating meet gets under way

VUDA Park and Shivaji Park in the city are packed with young roller-skaters who are participating in the 26th A.P. State inter-district roller-skating championships-cum-A.P. team selection trials which commenced on Sunday.

On the NTR banked track in VUDA park, boys and girls in different age groups are racing along the track in a flash as the speed skating events are going on. At Shivaji Park rink the participants are showing their skills of dancing and completing intricate poses even as they perform with speed on the roller-skates. The road near Mudasarlova is the venue for the road races where greater speeds will be clocked.

MLA V. Ramakrishna Babu, who inaugurated the championships on Sunday assured of all the support in providing better infrastructure and repairing the existing facilities. State Roller-Skating Association president J. Sudhakar Reddy, secretary D. Bhagirath, district president D. Prasanna Kumar, secretary M. Syam Babu, chairman T. Saraswathi Devi, organising committee chairman Kiran Kishore and others were present.

The roller hockey event will be held during the last three days of the meet. During the first two days skaters from Visakhapatnam won a large number of medals in both speed and artistic events.
