The Railway Minister has agreed, in principle, to locate a separate railway zone with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters, K. Haribabu, MP, has said.

The MP said the committee appointed to study the feasibility of setting up the zone in the light of the A P Reorganisation Act had submitted its report. A few official formalities, may be like the approval of Cabinet, had to be fulfilled before it materialised, he said. He was responding to questions on the observation of Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju that lack of clarity in the Reorganisation Act was one of the reasons for delay in the formation of the zone.

Mr. Haribabu said after bifurcation, the Centre had helped Andhra Pradesh in an unprecedented manner. It helped in setting up of higher education institutions and capital to the tune of Rs.4,500 crore.
