Even as political parties are busy making arrangements for celebrating the victory in the general elections, City Police Commissioner Mahesh Chandra Laddha on Wednesday said that no permission was given yet for organising victory rallies and meetings after the results were announced.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been imposed in the city for the counting of votes slated for Thursday and number of ‘problematic persons’ have been bound over, Mr. Laddha told the media.
“It is mandatory for political parties to get prior permission for organising victory rallies and processions. Nod has not given to any political parties yet. The police will think about it later,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Laddha took part in a sensitisation meet organised for the civil police deputed at the counting centre at Andhra University Engineering College.

Meanwhile, the District Police have bound over ‘problematic persons’ from vulnerable areas. On Wednesday, several firecracker unit owners have been instructed not to allow sale of crackers in Makavarapalem police station limits. The Rural Police are also organising grama sabhas in problematic areas.
Security tightened
The City Police have been put on high alert after the seizure of an abandoned boat suspected to be from Sri Lanka, ahead of the launch of the PSLV-C46 from the Satish Dhawan Space Research Centre at Sriharikota, in the early hours of Wednesday.
“We have alerted the Marine Police and informed fishermen about it. The police are keeping a close watch on the coastal area, in the wake of incident,” City Police Commissioner Mahesh Chandra Laddha said on Wednesday.
According to sources, the coastal security police and a few other wings have intensified searches. It is learnt that fishermen have been alerted to alert the police in case they notice any boat or person with suspicious movements.
Two weeks ago, Director-General of Police (DGP) R.P. Thakur reviewed the security arrangements at vital installations and places of worship in the wake of the terrorists attack in Sri Lanka. The DGP also said that SHAR, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam and several other coastal areas had been put on alert.
