The Mahila Sessions Court here on Wednesday delivered a judgment in the case of the murder of an engineering student that created sensation, by sentencing Chelluboina Ravikumar to serve life imprisonment and levying a fine of Rs. 2,000 under Section 302 of the IPC.
Ravikumar hacked to death his wife Krishnaveni, an engineering student, in broad daylight on the road near Kalabharathi on March 1, 2011.
Mahila Court judge N. Raja Prasad Baba also directed Ravikumar’s parents Suryanarayana, Guramma and younger sisters M. Syamala Devi and D. Prasanna Kumari to serve three years in jail each and pay a fine of Rs. 5,000. Ravikumar, a taxi driver, and his parents and sisters, had harassed Krishnaveni for more dowry and property.
After Krishnaveni returned to her parents’ home unable to bear the harassment, Ravikumar picked an argument with her when she was returning home from college and slashed her throat with a knife, killing her on the spot.
Special Public Prosecutor M. Venugopala Rao conducted the prosecution. Three Town Police registered a case.
