Jayaprakash selected for Gollapudi Srinivas Award

Jayaprakash of Tamil Nadu won the 19{+t}{+h}Gollapudi Srinivas National Award-2015 for debutant director for his film Lens .

A jury headed by veteran director Singeetham Srinivasa Rao and comprising noted director Vasanth Sai and actor Rohini selected Lens from among 33 entries in several languages, including Hindi, Malayalam, English, Assamese, Bengali, Tamil, and Kannada, noted writer and actor Gollapudi Maruti Rao announced at a press conference here on Wednesday.

The award was established in memory of his youngest son Srinivas, who died in 1992 while shooting his first film Premapustakam here.

It is given every year to a debutant director.

Besides directing the film on cyber crime, reflecting today’s world of Internet and computers, Jayaprakash plays the protagonist in the film.

The award, given by the Gollapudi Srinivas Memorial Foundation and comprising Rs.1.5 lakh in cash and a memento, will be presented on August 12, the day Srinivas died in an accident.

The award will be given away at Madras Music Academy in the presence of celluloid luminaries.

Mr. Maruthi Rao said the Gollapudi Srinivas Memorial Lecture would also be delivered on the occasion.

The first award was presented to Leslie Carvalho ( The Outhouse ) in 1997.

Earlier winners of the award include Syama Prasad (Malayalam, Agnisakshi ), Maju Bora (Assamese, Baibhab ), Ram Madhvani (English, Let’s Talk ), who later directed Neerja , Mohana Krishna (Telugu, Grahanam ), and Aamir Khan ( Taare Zameen Par ).
