State-level drama competitions organised by Appajosyula-Vishnubhotla-Kandalam Foundation in collaboration with ‘Diamond Hits’ began at V.V. Ramana Murthy Auditorium at Anakapalle on Thursday.
Noted theatre artiste Vankayala Satyanarayana Murthy, who inaugurated it, said he would make a comeback to the stage.
Former minister Dadi Veerabhadra Rao was presented the inaugural ‘best writer award’ of the foundation.
A cash award of Rs.10,000 for his services to the theatre was given away to Gollapudi Dasupantulu of Tummapala.
Director of All India Radio, Visakhapatnam, A. Malleswara Rao, praised the efforts of the foundation to revive theatre.
Appajosyula Satyanarayana of the foundation expressed his happiness at Anakapalle hosting the event.
N. Nagabhushanam, who screened the entries, said of the 50 dramas received nine were selected.
Dadi Ratnakar, who presided, lauded the endeavour of the foundation for sustaining the theatre activity for 22 years now.
‘Rendu Nissabdala Madhya’ (Abhinaya Arts, Guntur), ‘Controversy’ (New Star Modern Theatres, Vijayawada) and ‘Akshaya’ (Sri Gramina Kalakarula Aikya Vedika, Venigandal) were staged on the inaugural day.
