The city will have an exclusive cyber crime police station soon, with an attached cyber forensic laboratory, Director General of Police (DGP) R.P. Thakur revealed here on Tuesday.
“The cyber crime police station and the lab will come up in the VUDA Building . We hope that the facilities will be inaugurated in the next 15 days,” he said, after inaugurating a solar power plant in the ACB building here.
The police station and the lab are being set up, keeping in mind the rise in the cyber crime cases in the city in the last few years.
As per the Cyber Crime Cell, it receives at least four to five complaints per day related to bank frauds, job rackets, OTP racket and hacking among others.
‘SHE Team’
“Apart from helping the investigating officers solve the cases, the forensic lab will be used as a training ground. The officers not only should update themselves with the latest technology but also know how to crack the cases. We already have training labs at Vijayawada and Anantapur and the one proposed in Vizag will be the third in the State,” said Mr. R.P. Thakur.
Reiterating that women safety and traffic issues were two other focus areas, the DGP assured that the proposed ‘SHE Team’ will be launched shortly. “The SHE Team is in operation now informally. We will launch it officially shortly,” he said.
Referring to traffic related issues, Mr. Thakur said faulty road engineering on the NH had been identified as the key reason for the rise in accidents.
Road safety
“The dividers and their cutting have not been done scientifically and the intersection roads that connects the highway with the nearby villages need a re-look. The GVMC and NHAI need to be taken in board while addressing the traffic issue. We are in the process of identifying the black spots on the NHs and the issue will be reviewed with other departments,” he said.
The DGP also cautioned that the police would go strict on enforcement. “All traffic ills will go, if the people become a little cautious and abide by the rules,” he said.
