Convocation of Gitam Dental College held

NTR University of Health Sciences has launched many initiatives to strengthen health education in the State, its Vice-Chancellor I.V. Rao said during the sixth graduation day of the Gitam Dental College here on Friday.

The first batch of PG students of the college and 110 BDS graduates received their degrees from Dr. Rao with their parents watching the ceremony.

Research

The university has initiated Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Dental Education (CDE) programmes for post-graduate students and is encouraging research activity in the medical colleges, he said. It would fund two research projects in each medical and dental college and conduct workshops for PG students in research methodology and thesis writing, Dr. Rao said. He wanted every undergraduate student to go for PG course and take up research work.

“Awareness of modern medical practices is need of hour and for this purpose the Health University is conducting training programmes for faculty members up to Assistant Professor cadre”, he said. Gitam University President M.V.V.S. Murthi advised the students to serve the rural people as a social responsibility. The dental college was ready to take up research projects in health care sector in coming years, he announced.

Dental Council of India's Executive Council Member K. Satish Kumar Reddy said that the council was taking all initiatives to improve dental education in the country.

GITAM University Vice-Chancellor G. Subrahmanyam briefed about the university. Principal of GITAM Dental College and Hospital K. Gangadhara Prasad presented a brief report and GITAM Vice-President V. Seetaramaiah and Governing Body members participated in the function.
