AP Eastern Power Distribution Company Ltd has simplified application for seeking power connection in its jurisdiction.

An analysis of the data of the Discom’s call centres revealed that of the 1.90 lakh calls received in 2014-15 1.66 lakh or more than 80 per cent were from potential customers seeking new power connections. A detailed study revealed that the four-page application form, insistence on ownership title and the agreement between the Discom and the customer was the major obstacle for customers not being able to get new connections, Chairman and Managing Director of APEPDCL Revu Muthyalaraju said at a media conference here on Saturday.

After a detailed study of the legal provisions the Discom has simplified the application to a two-page document which includes the agreement between the Discom and the customer. A customer would have to submit the application along with a proof of ownership or an indemnity bond from the owner of the property or in case both are not available an indemnity bond by the individual.

In the third case the security deposit would be thrice the average monthly demand, which would not be very high in case of customers from weaker sections, he said. The third document to be submitted is a photo identity card, which could be an EPIC card or Aadhaar card and the fourth the statutory wiring completion certificate.

In the five districts in its jurisdiction – Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari districts – the Discom has an estimated 1.79 lakh households that are yet to be electrified. Most of these are in Agency areas and are remote area. In some remote habitations where supply of power through LT wires was not possible, the Discom was supplying stand alone solar power units, he said.
