Fire accident
A fire broke out at Divis Labs located in Chippada village in Bheemunipatnam mandal in Visakhapatnam city limits on March 6. The incident occurred at the reactor in the H-Block and three contract workers, G. Bhaskar Rao, V. Asiri Naidu and Ganapati Rao, suffered severe burn injuries.
While Bhaskar Rao who sustained over 80 per cent burns died on March 8, Ganpati died on Sunday. The third victim V. Asiri Naidu with 62 per cent burns is still battling for his life in the hospital.
District secretary of CPI (M), B. Lokanadham, said that it was due to negligence of the management that both contract workers have died.
They were not given proper treatment for about 32 hours, immediately after the accident. They were moved to an orthopaedic hospital instead of a super speciality hospital with a specialised burns ward. It was only after the hue and cry that they were shifted to a corporate hospital.
In the meantime, the infections had spread, said Mr. Lokanadham.
