A sizeable gathering of rasikas assembled at Rajiv Smruthi Bhavan on the beach road to celebrate the birthday of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham Asthana Vidwan Parupalli Satyanarayana. The difference was the birthday boy was singing much to the joy of the audience.
It was not just the audience seated inside the compound wall of Rajiv Smruthi Bhavan but also those sitting on the benches and on the elevated platforms around the statues outside were treated to some extraordinary rendition of lesser heard krithis of Saint Tyagaraja, Annamacharya and some written by Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna.
The nearly two-hour programme organised by Tarakeswara Foundation had many noted persons from the city, including founder president of Kalabharati C.S.N. Raju, Parupalli Sri Ramachandra Murthy and A.V.N. Chetty, in attendance. In all, the Carnatic exponent rendered more than ten compositions by Dr. Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna, Thanjavur Sankaran, Annamayya and Tyagaraja, among others. He was accompanied by Avireddy Satya Vishal, disciple of Dwaram Durga Prasad Rao, on the violin and by Guntuku Venkata Rao on the mridangam.
The next concert being organised by the Tarakeswara Foundation is Carnatic Mandolin Recital by a child prodigy from Mangalore Sadhgun Aithal on April 3 evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
He will be accompanied by Nikshit T. Puttur from Mangalore on the mridangam, Thalada Chaitanya on the morsing and Duddupudi Naresh Kant Raj on the ghatam.
