‘Tipsy’ auto driver attacks two policemen

Two policemen were injured when they were attacked with a knife allegedly by an autorickshaw driver, who was reportedly in an inebriated condition, at Reddipalem of Padmanabham mandal in the early hours of Monday. The victims were constable Ch. Ashok Kumar and Home Guard G. Appalaraju of Padmanabham police station.

According to Padmanabham Inspector Y.K. Kishore Kumar, the two policemen, who were on night patrolling, noticed the autorickshaw parked at an isolated place near the old theatre junction of Reddipalem at around 1.30 a.m.. The policemen woke up the auto driver and questioned him, as the autorickshaw had the registration number of Vizianagaram. This resulted in a heated argument and the driver allegedly attacked them with a knife.
