Youth can play an important role in controlling pollution, said Deputy Director of Groundwater Department A. Varaprasada Rao.
He was addressing a seminar on the role of youth in curbing the menace of pollution at KBN College here on Monday.
On the occasion, Mr. Rao said the tremendous increase in global population posed unprecedented threat to the environment.
Unless a concerted effort is made, people around the world would face the kind and scale of calamities never seen before. Water and air pollution were particularly rampant necessitating urgent remedial action by both the developed and developing countries. It was imperative that they should act together on a comprehensive plan of action lest their task should remain unaccomplished to the detriment of the entire mankind, Mr. Rao added.
College Vice-Principal V. Narayana Rao said the luxurious lifestyle of major chunks of global population caused a marked deterioration in the quality of air and water and a collective battle against the varied threats was the need of the hour.
KBN Junior College Principal T. Bhagya Kumar, KBN College faculty members G. Krishna Veni, K.P.T. Vijay Bhaskar, M. Sudha Rani, Gita, Sailaja, Kishore and others participated.
