The ACA-VDCA international cricket stadium is set to get the Test status recognition at the general body meeting of the BCCI scheduled to be held in September, according to Andhra Cricket Association secretary Gokaraju Gangaraju.
One of the One Day Internationals being played during the West Indies tour of India in October will be played at Visakhapatnam stadium.
A team, comprising G.R. Viswanath, Ranjib Biswal, and M.V. Sridhar, deputed to inspect the stadium had suggested some minor modifications to the facilities to enable it to qualify for Test status. Work on it is in progress and will be completed by this month-end. Apart from this formality the stadium is found fit to host Test Cricket and so the BCCI general body meeting scheduled to be held in September is sure to bestow the status on it, Mr. Gangaraju has said.
Once the Test status is conferred on the stadium, it can also be a World Cup cricket venue, the ACA secretary has said.
Visakhapatnam is sure to figure in the test series to be held in the country next year, he has said and added that this will give a fillip to the game in the city and the State.
