The State government is going to take a big leap forward in the civil aviation sector with the launch of flights from Vijayawada to Singapore by IndiGo on October 25.
This is a part of the efforts to provide reliable and seamless air connectivity to regional, national and international destinations by 2022.
The Vijayawada - Singapore flights will be available twice a week i.e on Tuesday and Thursday, according to a press release from Principal secretary (infrastructure and investments) Ajay Jain. He said the direct flights from Vijayawada to Singapore would become operational from Oct 25 and the Infrastructure Department was fully geared up to promote the development of aviation infrastructure.
It may be noted that the State government has offered viability gap funding to the service providers to encourage the airlines to connect the capital region to the world. Vijayawada airport was declared as an international facility last year capable of handling wide-bodied aircraft and the infrastructure has since been augmented.
