Woman dies after acid attack, friend injured in Vijayawada

She fell off the bike and sustained a grievous head injury

In a gory incident, a woman died and her friend suffered burns when some miscreants threw acid on them while they were travelling on a motorcycle on the national highway at Keesarapalli village on the outskirts of Vijayawada on Friday night. Reeling from the acid thrown at her face, the woman fell off the bike and sustained a grievous head injury.

The victims have been identified as P. Emaleyamma alias Rani (32) and K. Rajesh, natives of Gannavaram mandal in Krishna district. Rani succumbed to her injury in the early hours of Saturday. Rani was a native of Telaprolu village, while Rajesh was a resident of Budhavaram village. Serious burns According to the police, the accused threw acid on the duo while they were travelling to Unguturu mandal at around 10.30 pm.

The victims were rushed with serious burns to hospital with, where Rani died while undergoing treatment. Rajesh, an employee in a private company, “is responding to treatment and is out of danger,” said the doctors. Accused followed them “The accused were following the couple on bikes and threw acid on them as they crossed Gudavalli village on the highway. Then they sped away,” a villager said.

The Gannavaram police have registered a case and have taken a few suspects, including one Kiran who had developed a friendship with Rani, into custody for questioning. They are also verifying the call data of the couple’s mobile phones.

“Rani’s body has been shifted to the Government General Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem,” said Gannavaram Circle Inspector Sk. Ahmed Ali.
