The issues of using water across the river basins, water usage efficiency, and the ayacut of the Nagarjuna Sagar in Andhra Pradesh came up during the cross examination of engineering expert Ganashyam Jha, who represented Telangana, in front of the Justice Brijesh Kumar Tribunal in New Delhi in the hearings that took place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The senior counsel representing Andhra Pradesh cross examined Mr. Jha asking questions related to these three issues.
Telangana had been opposing the lifting of water from the Krishna Basin to Rayasalaseema. It wanted A.P. to use water from projects such as Pattiseema and Polavaram for the irrigation needs of Rayalaseema.
The counsel for A.P. argued that Pattiseema was a temporary project and Polavaram was not yet complete.
Telangana had been stating that the water use efficiency was far too low. Its counsel argued that it was well within the normal range of between 30% and 40%.
Telangana had also been arguing that there was a disparity in the ayacut of A.P. and Telagana under the Nagarjuna Sagar Project. The A.P. counsel argued that the ayacut was planned as per gravity when the two States were united and that could not be held against A.P.
