The truck operators’ five-day strike was called off on Monday evening after the Central government assured to look into their demands, said Andhra Pradesh Lorry Owners Association general secretary Y.V. Eswara Rao.

Extending support to the nation-wide truckers strike called by All India Motor Transport Congress (AITMC), lorry owners in the State had launched the indefinite strike September 30. The main demand of AITMC was changing the existing toll-fee collection process at the toll plazas, besides scrapping the move to install speed governors in all trucks.

AITMC leaders said that the Central government had constituted a committee, in which truckers would also have representatives, to look into their demands and a report will be submitted by 15 December. Following the AITMC instructions the strike was called off, Mr. Rao said.
