Deputy Transport Commissioner E. Meera Prasad on Thursday launched the ‘Traffic Paathshala’, a joint initiative of HDFC Bank and city police on M.G. Road here.

According to the bank’s Cluster Head in Vijayawada C. Pavan Kumar, volunteers under the initiative would create awareness among the motorists and denizens on road safety .

Volunteers would traverse the city covering busy junctions, markets, colonies, schools and colleges carrying the message of road safety, he said. Also, motorists found following the rules would be rewarded and those found violating them would be enrolled in the paathshala.

The campaign will focus on the promotion of lane discipline, helmets, seat belts, prohibition of mobile phone usage while driving and drink and drive.
