Senior TDP leader and Pedana MLA K. Venkata Rao on Wednesday threatened to resign if the Irrigation Ministry fails to ensure supply ofwater to the paddy fields in his constitution.

Mr. Rao told The Hindu that he would meet Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday to discuss the irrigation water problem. “My repeated requests to Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao have fallen ona deaf ear to take immediate measures to provide irrigation water. I will take a decision whether to resign as MLA or not based on the response from the Chief Minister,” said Mr. Rao.

“I do not have political differences with the Chief Minister till date. However, I have taken the responsibility of addressing the farmers’ problems. I am worried about farmers’ suicides in the drought-hit areas in my constituency”, said Mr. Rao, referring to a recent suicide by a tenant farmer in his constituency.

“I will ask the Chief Minister to announce mandals of Bantumilli and Krithuvennu in Krishna district as drought hit areas”, said Mr. Rao.
