The Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies, Nuzvid (IIIT) authorities on Sunday addressed the woes of power and supply of potable water on the campus by installing a transformer on a temporary basis.
The students and the faculty residing in the staff quarters on the campus had to suffer without access to water and power supply since Friday as the transformer has failed and required repair. There are at least 8,000 students in the institution.
“The single transformer on which we depend for power and supply of water across the campus has failed two days ago (Friday). We have rented out a few generators to run the campus and a transformer has been installed on a temporary basis on Sunday,” IIIT Director V. Venkata Dasu told The Hindu .
Minister’s visit
On being informed about the interruption of power and problems of water supply on the campus, Education Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao on Sunday visited the campus. He enquired about the financial resources to afford a backup system for electricity in the event of the failure of the only transformer.
“We have been advised by Mr. Srinivas to own an additional transformer. The defunct transformer will be repaired and reinstalled within a month,” added Mr. Venkata Dasu.
Grievances
Mr. Srinivas inspected the mess and hostel buildings, apart from hearing the grievances of the parents who arrived there to meet their children.
