Following the increase in the prices of the onion owing to heavy rain in Maharashtra, Krishna District Collector A.Md. Imtiaz has set up exclusive counters to sell onions at the Swaraj Maidan Rythu Bazaar in the city.
The Collector, in the presence of the Marketing Department officials, set up the exclusive counters wherein onions will be sold at subsidised price of ₹25 per kg, as opposed to the current rate which has crossed the ₹50-mark.
He said 112 quintals of onions brought by authorities from Kurnool would be distributed among all the Rythu Bazaars in the district.
Identity proof
He said men and women would have separate counters and that each person could purchase up to 2kg onion until the prices of the onions stabilise.
Joint Collector Madhavi Latha said the officials would act strictly against the traders hoarding onions.
She said that customers must produce a valid identification proof such as ration card or Aadhar card in order to purchase onions at the subsidised price.
