The National Eligibility–cum–Entrance Test (NEET) – 2017 for admission into MBBS and BDS courses was held peacefully at Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Guntur and Tirupati on Sunday. The test was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education in 103 cities and towns.
However, many candidates had a bitter experience with the invigilators strictly doing their duty, going to the extent of scanning the candidates with metal detectors to ensure that they did not resort to any malpractice with the help of small gadgets which could be smuggled in.
Women wearing earrings, chains and other ornaments were asked to remove them in view of the possibility of copying with the help of hidden electronic devices. The candidates were thoroughly frisked to rule out any chance of sneaking in with such equipment.
Women had to untie their hair to get checked for the presence of any prohibited articles. Candidates had to even remove their shoes and go with slippers. There were no exceptions to this.
Tight security was arranged by the police in the vicinity of the test centres. Around 52,300 MBBS and BDS seats are to be filled through the NEET which replaced the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) as well as all State-level medical entrance tests.
