YSR Congress Party founder Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy criticised the State and the Central Governments for what he described as their failure to address the problems of the farmers who were suffering due to lack of good prices for their produce.
Addressing a number of meetings during his Odarpu Yatra in Krishna rural district and Vijayawada city on Monday, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy recalled how former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy used to give top priority to resolving the farmers' problems. All sections of people, particularly those living in rural areas, saw a golden age during the Rajasekhara Reddy regime and it was because of this he was still remembered widely, he said.
Mr. Reddy's Odarpu Yatra covered several places like Chagantipadu, Bhadrirajupalem, Thotlavalluru, Yanamalakuduru and Ayyappanagar in Penamaluru and Vijayawada East Assembly constituencies. He unveiled statues of late Rajasekhara Reddy at some places and addressed the local people from the podiums raised there.
YSR Congress Party district president Samineni Udaya Bhanu, spokesperson Vasireddy Padma, party city leader Devireddy Ravindranath Reddy and others accompanied Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy.
During his speeches, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy asserted that the nation would be happy only when the farmers were prosperous and that their party would stage a dharna on October 1 in city in front of Sub-Collector's office to press for immediate action from the Government to ensure justice to farmers.
He thanked the people, who attended the meetings, for showing so much affection which he attributed to the impact created in their hearts by his father Rajasekhara Reddy. Even after two years of his death, Rajasekhara Reddy continued to live in the hearts of the people, he added. Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy blamed the Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu for what he described as Mr. Naidu's lack of sincerity and honesty in his political career which was unlike Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy who stood by the people in their hour of need. Mr. Naidu would never be able to get credibility because of his pursuit of immoral politics, he said.
