With the government keen on developing ports in the State, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday wanted the authorities to create a road grid that would connects the National Highways with ports, besides linking of the hinterlands with all district headquarters.
This will boost port-led development by enabling Andhra Pradesh to become a logistics hub.
He wanted the Beach Road (NH-216) from Bheemunipatnam to Ongole to be developed into one of the best coastal roads in the country, modelled after the Pacific Coast Highway of California.
“This road should again be linked to inland waterways that will be developed in the coming days” said Mr. Naidu during a meeting with Roads and Building department authorities here on Saturday.
The roads connecting Kolkata-Vijayawada-Chennai should have an Outer Ring Road connecting Hyderabad on one side, Bangalore on the other, another with Jagdalpur.
“This ORR will inter-connect seven National Highways,” the Chief Minister said.
He suggested connecting Hyderabad-Kalvakurthi-Tirupati as this will be the shortest route to Chennai, besides linking Kadapa-Rajampet-Kodir -Tirupati.
The Chief Minsiter directed the authorities to ensure that that the State was pothole-free even during rainy season.
Regular monitoring about the quality of roads should be a priority and the department should establish a Research Wing to study the best technologies and practices in the world and implement them.
