As many as 295 private bus operators have been booked in the last five days during the surprise checks at Garikapadu check-post and the toll plazas at Pottipadu and Kesara, Deputy Transport Commissioner S. Venkateswara Rao said on Wednesday.

The checks were aimed at preventing the private bus operators from fleecing passengers in view of the festival season and the ongoing strike by Telangana RTC employees. Mr. Rao said six buses were confiscated and a fine of ₹25,000 was imposed on each of the erring operators. “The vehicles will be confiscated if the fines are not paid in the next three days,” Mr. Rao said.

He further said that the surprise checks would continue util Deepavali.
