The Supreme Court on Monday admitted a petition filed by former MP G.V. Harsha Kumar on the Kachuluru boat tragedy and directed that a notice be served to the Union government in that regard.

Justices N.V. Ramana and V. Ramasubramanian heard the advocates Hitendra Nath Rath and Sravan Kumar and permitted the issue of notices to the Union of India in relation to the petition about the recovery of bodies of 16 persons who went missing after the sinking of a passenger boat in the River Godavari near Kachuluru village upstream of the Polavaram project.

Mr. Sravan Kumar said the Union of India, Union Ministry of Shipping, Inland Waterways Authority of India, the States of Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Assam have been made respondents.
