Capital region ready to witness spurt in sports activity

The capital city of Amaravati will witness a spurt in sports infrastructure under the leadership of Member of Parliament (Guntur) and industrialist Jayadev Galla who has been unanimously elected as the president of Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association (APOA) at the elections held in Tirupati on Saturday, according to the Krishna District Olympic Association president K. Pattabhi Ram here on Sunday.

Speaking at a press conference, he said that Mr. Galla regularly provided sponsorships to sporting events across the State through his flagship company - Amara Raja Batteries and he would use his good offices to bring in corporate sponsorship for the benefit of the sports fraternity. “Mr. Jayadev was an active tennis player during his stay aboard and evinced interest in chess.

He also promised to prepare the capital city for the National Games and other premier events,” he added.

He said under the leadership Mr. Jayadev, the 13-districts of Andhra Pradesh will witness more number of sporting activities.

Wrestling unit administrator R. K. Purushotam was elected secretary while former minister K.E. Prabhakar was elected chairman. The other members are vice-presidents: K. Ch. Punnaiah Chowdary, Badeti Venkatramaiah, S.M. Sultan and J. Ramana Rao; treasurer: K. Padmanabham and joint secretaries: A.V. Raghavendra Rao, G. Ayyalu and M. Syam Babu.

The panel also had three associate joint secretaries and fifteen executive Committee members with a four-year term. Both SAAP Director M. Ravindra Babu and IOA Director K. Murugan took part as observers in the elections in which the panel was elected unanimously.
