The bodies of three girl students from a private junior college in Vijayawada drowned in river Krishna were fished out on Sunday morning.

Police, with the help of locals, fished out bodies of B. Pallavi, Y. Nagalakshmi and S. Pujitha, who were drowned in the Krishna at Seethanagaram village Tadepalli mandal on Saturday evening. The bodies were handed over to their parents after post mortem. Locals told the police that they had seen the three girls on the sandy dunes opposite Anjaneya Swamy Temple at Tadepalli in the evening. Police suspect that the girls might have ventured into the placid waters without knowing the lurking danger of deep pits but some scribbled papers found in the bags were giving suspicion that the girls could have committed suicide. But police dismiss the ‘suicide’ version.

Police found three pairs of chunnis, bus passes bearing the identity of students, and tickets of darshan of Kanaka Durga Temple near the bags.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Guntur North, P. Madhusudana Rao is investigating the case.
