Two Sri Lankan fishermen, who reportedly strayed into Indian waters a few miles off Kodiakarai after their fibre boat developed a technical snag on Sunday, were arrested by the Marine Police.

G. Rooba Das (21) and S. Nishanthan (23) were from Parithithurai near Jaffna.

As the sea was rough, the boat strayed into the Indian waters about eight nautical miles off Kodiakarai, the police said.

Fishermen of Arcot Thurai in Nagapattinam district who ventured into the sea found the two and rescued them. They handed them over to the Indian Navy who in turn handed them to the police.
