Three panchaloha idols found

Three panchaloha idols were recovered during renovation works at a dilapidated Perumal temple in Thiruvalayattam village near Tranquebar in Nagapattinam district on Sunday.

The idols were that of Perumal, Bhoomadevi and Sridevi. Official sources said construction of a wall around the temple was being undertaken as part of the renovation .

Five feet below

The idols were found at a depth of nearly five feet. Revenue officials were immediately alerted by the villagers. A curator from Tranquebar was engaged to determine the type of metal.

The idols were later brought to the Tranquebar taluk office and kept in safe custody.
