The annual ‘Tirukalyana Mahotsavam’ festival of Sri Sridevi Bhoomidevi Sametha Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple at Innambur near Kumbakonam was performed on Thursday.
The poorvanga pujas and homams for the celestial wedding began around 8.30 a.m. on Thursday, and rituals relating to the ‘thirukalyanam around 4 p.m. Devotees witnessed the main event of the celestial wedding - ‘thirumangalya tharanam’ - at 6 p.m. amid chanting of mantras.
Later, around 8 p.m., the ‘yanai vahana veedhi ula’ (taking round the deity mounted on wooden elephant mount) was taken out through the main streets.
