Temporary parking areas notified around Rockfort

To ease traffic congestion ahead of Deepavali

The Tiruchi Corporation has notified temporary parking areas in the city’s main commercial areas around the Rockfort to ease traffic congestion ahead of the Deepavali festival.

The temporary parking lots would function till October 27 at the following places:

Two Wheelers – Two-wheelers can be parked at the Corporation ground between Holy Cross Girls Higher Secondary School and Banana Leaf Restaurant; Yanaikulam Corporation grounds and Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School, Teppakulam, grounds.

Four Wheelers - Four wheelers can be parked on the Old Goodshed Road; Fort Station parking lot and the Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School grounds.

Parking of vehicles has been banned between the Thennur Road overbridge and the Gandhi Statue near Mainguard Gate on Madurai Road; between the Teppakulam Post Office and Ibrahim Park on West Boulevard Road; and along Fort Station Road.

All vehicles should be parked only at the designated areas and violators would be booked. All vehicles from Big Bazaar Street would have to go via Khiledhar Road and Babu Road to exit the bazaar area. No vehicle would be allowed to go in the opposite direction. Vehicles coming from North Andal Street would not be allowed to go via Nandikovil Street to reach NSB Road. Vendors and push carts should not obstruct traffic and autorickshaws would not be allowed on NSB Road.

All autorickshaws should be parked on the roadside on North Andal Street to pick or drop passengers and go via Vanappattari Mariamman Temple to reach College Road. In the return direction, the autorickshaws should go via Chathram Bus Stand and Butterworth Road to reach North Andal Street. Autorickshaws from Babu Road would not be allowed to enter the bazaar via Chinnakadai Street and Khiledhar Road. They should drop and pick up passengers at Babu Road.
