Seven fishermen of Nagapattinam district were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in the late hours on Thursday.

Hailing from Nambiyar Nagar, the fishermen ventured into the sea from Nagapattinam on September 27 onboard a mechanised vessel.

Fisheries Department officials said that among those arrested included the boat owner, S. Sathyan.

The officials received information about the arrest in the late hours on Thursday.

Coastal Security Group sources said the fishermen were arrested south of Kodiakkarai and taken to the Kankesanthurai port.

This is the fourth time within a month that fishermen of the central zone are being arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy.
