A shaving blade ingested by a dog was successfully removed through surgery at the Veterinary College and Research Institute Hospital, Orathanadu.

A few days ago, Prasanna of Thanjavur, owner of a two-year-old female labrador, brought the canine to the VCRI hospital stating that his puppy had swallowed a shaving blade accidentally.

The X- ray taken at the hospital revealed the presence of the foreign object in the stomach and considering the nature of the foreign body and to avoid further damage to the digestive system it was decided to perform surgery immediately.

The shaving blade was removed successfully and the dog made an uneventful recovery following intensive postoperative monitoring and therapy, said VCRI Dean T. Sivakumar.
