An 18-year-old college student was fatally knocked down by a train in Pudukottai district on Friday when he and other students were taking selfie on mobile phone close to the railway track. The incident occurred between Pudukottai and Tirumayam railway stations.
Railway Police gave the name of the victim as K. Manikandan of Machuvadi in Pudukottai town. He was a II-year B.Sc. Maths student of a private college at Sivapuram near Tirumayam. Manikandan had skipped the classes and went out with other students when the accident occurred. The others, who escaped unhurt, rushed him to a private hospital and later to Pudukottai Government Hospital where he died. Karaikudi Railway Police have registered a case under Section 174 of Code of Criminal Procedure.
